FRANKLIN TEACHER INDUCTED INTO MCDANIEL COLLEGE HALL OF FAME

Franklin High School physical education teacher Katherine Haley has been named to McDaniel College’s Green Terror Sports Hall of Fame.

Haley, the physical education department chair at Franklin, was awarded the honor as an alumnus who “performed outstandingly as an undergraduate athlete and who has contributed to society since leaving the College,” according to the criteria set forth by the Hall of Fame.

FRANKLIN'S ANTHONY BURGOS NAMED RAVENS HIGH SCHOOL COACH OF THE WEEK

Anthony Burgos, head coach of the Franklin (Reisterstown, Md.) varsity football team, has been named Ravens High School Coach of the Week for the sixth week of the 2008 season. Presented by Toyota, this is the 12th year of the Ravens’ award program.

FRANKLIN HIGH SCHOOL'S JOHN BILLINGSLEA A FINALIST FOR MARYLAND TEACHER OF THE YEAR!

Baltimore County’s 2008-09 Teacher of the Year, John Billingslea, has been chosen one of eight finalists for the Maryland Teacher of the Year honor to be announced in October.

Billingslea, an Advanced Placement social studies teacher, was chosen Baltimore County’s Teacher of the Year in May. He will interview before a state panel next month for the state position.

SENIOR TEACHER LAURIE WALKER CHOSEN AS GRAND MARSHALL FOR THE REISTERSTOWN FESTIVAL PARADE
Franklin teacher Laurie Walker was chosen by the senior class of 2008 as the Grand Marshall of the Reisterstown Festival Parade in September. Laurie has taught English for 23 years in Baltimore County Public Schools, CCBC, and Villa Julie College. She currently teaches English 12 and Creative Writing at FHS, where she has taught for 7 years. Although the parade was cancelled due to inclement weather, festival organizers invited her back next year to lead the parade down Main Street.

FHS TEACHER SPOTLIGHT

Tech. Ed. teacher and chair Earl Deickman is an avid photographer whose work has been showcased at FHS and the Town Mall of Westminster. Mr. Deickman is a member of a local photography club and enjoys taking photos of nature and his grandchildren. At left is one of his photos taken on the Clark Fork River in Montana.

 

 



FHS TEACHER WINS TACHAU TEACHER OF THE YEAR AWARD

Congratulations to Bruce Lesh, Social Studies Department Chair and AP Government teacher, who has been awarded the 2008 Organization of American Historians Tachau Teacher of the Year Award.
