Franklin High School
Franklin Academy, named for American statesman Benjamin Franklin, was established in Reisterstown in 1820 as a private boys’ school of liberal arts. In January of 1821, the General Assembly of Maryland officially appointed John Tolly Worthington, J. T. H. Worthington, Garrett G. Worthington, Charles Worthington, E. S. Johnson, Nimrod Cromwell, Richard Johns, Adam Shoevers, and Dr. Thomas Walker as trustees of the Franklin Academy with power to appoint teachers and to hold, sell, buy, or lease property for use of said Academy. Later that month the Assembly awarded them $400 for the new school.
