Students enrolled in Advanced Placement courses are preparing themselves for college-level work in addition to challenging themselves academically. As the registration for AP exams begins, we have detailed the process for registration, payment, and fees.
This year, students are responsible for the cost of exams, unless your 11th or 12th grader has met College & Career Readiness (CCR) Standards. As outlined in the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future, BCPS will cover the cost for up to six exams if you have met CCR Standards. Please take note that students who are College and Career Readiness (CCR) met and who demonstrate disruptive or elopement behaviors in an exam room or during an AP exam will be responsible for the cost of exam fees incurred. If you are unsure of your student’s CCR status, please contact their teacher or the AP coordinators.
AP exams follow specific guidelines for testing and students who leave testing rooms without permission or are disruptive during a testing session are subject to an incident report (school administration and College Board), will be dismissed and not readmitted, and will be responsible for the exam fees incurred.
There are ways all students, regardless of CCR status, can incur fees. Please pay careful attention to registration dates and deadlines. Please see the following chart for additional exam fee information:

Unused/canceled exam fee
If you decide after the November 5th ordering deadline not to take an exam that was ordered for you, the charge is $40 per exam instead of the full exam fee. The $40 fee applies to any unused or canceled exams, including an exam ordered for a student who qualifies for a College Board fee reduction. It’s important to tell your AP coordinator if you decide not to take an exam. This fee doesn’t apply if you transfer out of a school.

Here you will find the Universal Fee Waiver directions from BCPS. Please complete the Universal Fee Waiver electronically in Focus by November 5th, 2025, if applicable, so that your student’s exam fees will be reduced.
To register for their AP exams, students must indicate their decision to order their exam(s) in College Board by Thursday, October 9th, 2025. Please have your student follow steps 1, 2, and 3 below to complete the registration process.
1. Join Your AP Class Section Online
- Go to myap.collegeboard.org
- Sign in with your College Board account (Students must contact College Board if login credentials need to be reset.)
- Use the join code provided by your AP teacher to join the specific class section.
- This step is crucial — joining the class links you to the exam for that subject.
2. Indicate Your Exam Decision
- Once you're in the class section on My AP, you'll be asked if you plan to take the exam.
- You must indicate “Yes” (or change from “No” to “Yes”) before OCTOBER 9 to be registered for the exam.
3. Pay the Exam Fee (if required)
- All exam payments will be through Franklin High’s online payment system. Directions will be included with an invoice that students will receive from one of their AP teachers based on the exams they are registered for.
Details about testing times and locations will be sent in the spring. If you have questions about registration or payment, please contact Mrs. Cavaliere at [email protected] or Mr. Gibbs at [email protected].
Sincerely,
