AVID

AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination; it is an elective course offered to students who would like to prepare for, participate in, and achieve in higher level classes and in four-year universities. The curriculum features writing, inquiry, collaboration, reading, note-taking and study skills, and college/career/motivational activities. In AVID classes, students work cooperatively to study and clarify learning through Tutorials and Collaborative Study Groups.

The AVID classes also take field trips to tour universities in the area. AVID students prepare for college by being committed to taking notes in subject-area classes daily, maintaining organization, and most importantly staying motivated to succeed. Some of the requirements for applicants are satisfactory citizenship, good attendance, a GPA of 2.5 – 3.8, and the individual determination to take rigorous classes and matriculate into a four-year college or university.
